Uninstall VoiceMeeter
VoiceMeeter installs an application and a set of kernel-mode virtual audio drivers. The uninstaller removes the application; the drivers need one extra step if you want the device list to be clean again. Order matters.
Before you start
- Close VoiceMeeter completely — right-click the tray icon and exit, not just the window.
- Point Windows default playback and recording back at your real devices, so nothing is left trying to play into a mixer that is about to disappear.
- In every application that used a VoiceMeeter device as its microphone or speaker, set it back to hardware. Discord, OBS, Zoom and Teams all cache device names and will silently fall back if the device vanishes.
- If you want to keep your routing, copy the configuration XML out of your roaming application data folder first. Upgrades normally preserve it, uninstalls do not.
Remove the application
- Uninstall via Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find VoiceMeeter, choose Uninstall. Every edition installs under the same family name.
- Reboot The audio engine holds driver handles while it runs. A restart releases them before you touch Device Manager.
- Check the Sound panel
If
VoiceMeeter Input,VoiceMeeter Output,VoiceMeeter AUXorVAIO3still appear, the driver is still registered — continue below.
Remove the virtual audio drivers
- Open Device Manager (
devmgmt.msc). - Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the VoiceMeeter VAIO entry → Uninstall device.
- Tick Attempt to remove the driver for this device if the checkbox is offered, then confirm.
- Still in Device Manager: View → Show hidden devices, then repeat for any greyed-out VoiceMeeter entries.
- Reboot.
Do not remove audio drivers you do not recognise. Only the entries named VoiceMeeter, VAIO or VB-Audio belong to this software. Everything else on that list is your real hardware.
Remove leftover settings
Configuration files live in the per-user roaming application data folder. Deleting them resets the mixer to defaults on a future install. Remove them only if you are not coming back.
%APPDATA%\VoiceMeeter
%APPDATA%\VB-Audio
Paste either path into the File Explorer address bar. Close VoiceMeeter first; it rewrites the file on exit.
Verify the removal
| Check | Expected after a clean removal |
|---|---|
| Sound → Playback | No VoiceMeeter entries |
| Sound → Recording | No VoiceMeeter entries |
| Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers | No VoiceMeeter or VAIO entries, hidden ones included |
| Task Manager → Startup | No VoiceMeeter entry left behind |
| Any application that used the mixer | Its own device setting points at real hardware |
If a device refuses to go
- It reappears after every reboot. The driver package is still in the store. Device Manager → right-click the device → Uninstall → tick remove driver, then reboot before reinstalling anything.
- Uninstall is blocked by a running process. End the VoiceMeeter process in Task Manager, then retry.
- The uninstall entry is missing. Reinstall the current package from voicemeeter.xyz/download so the uninstaller exists again, then uninstall normally.
- Windows still shows a phantom device. Sound → Manage sound devices → find the entry → Remove.
Reinstalling later
The current installer is VoicemeeterSetup_v2310.zip from voicemeeter.xyz/download. Run it as administrator and reboot — the getting started page covers the settings to check afterwards.
