VoiceMeeter documentation

VoiceMeeter is a free virtual audio mixer for Windows. It installs virtual audio devices, takes every sound your PC makes plus your microphones, and lets you send each of them to any output independently. These pages cover installation, routing and the failures people actually hit.

Getting started

Install, reboot, assign A1, match sample rates, verify the signal path. The first twenty minutes, done in the right order.

Editions compared

Standard, Banana and Potato side by side: strips, buses, patchbay, VBAN, recorder. Which one your setup needs.

Audio routing

The bus model, patchbay inserts, per-app routing, ASIO for DAWs, buffer sizing and VBAN over the LAN.

Troubleshooting

Silent output, crackling, missing devices, audio engine restarts, latency, echo. Symptom to cause to fix.

OBS Studio

Separate game, voice and music into their own OBS sources, with no double audio and no feedback loop.

Discord and calls

Clean microphone into Discord, Zoom or Teams while music and game stay out of your voice.

Uninstall

Remove the application and the virtual drivers in the right order, leaving no ghost endpoints behind.

What VoiceMeeter actually does

Windows gives every application one output and one input. VoiceMeeter inserts a mixer between them. Applications keep playing to a normal-looking playback device called VoiceMeeter Input; VoiceMeeter receives that audio as a strip, mixes it with your physical microphones and any other virtual inputs, and sends the result to the devices you choose — speakers, headset, a second sound card, a stream, or back into an application as a microphone.

The practical result: a game, a browser, a voice chat and your microphone can each be heard on your headphones at different volumes, while the stream or call receives only the parts you select.

The three virtual devices you will see in Windows

Windows deviceDirectionWhat it is
VoiceMeeter InputPlaybackThe way into the mixer. Anything played to this device becomes a virtual strip inside VoiceMeeter.
VoiceMeeter OutputRecordingThe way out, bus B1. Applications that need a "microphone" point here.
VoiceMeeter AUX Input / AUX OutputBothBanana and Potato only. A second, fully independent virtual pair.
VoiceMeeter VAIO3 InputPlaybackPotato only. A third independent virtual input, typically a DAW return or a second PC.

Short version for a first install: download from voicemeeter.xyz/download, unzip, run the installer as administrator, reboot, then set A1 in VoiceMeeter to your real speakers. Without A1 you get silence no matter what Windows reports.
